Choose who can message you
Pick who reaches your inbox, handle Requests, and mute, block or report a conversation.
You choose who can reach your inbox. Messages from everyone else wait in Requests, where you can accept or delete them.
Choose who can message you
- Open Settings, then Notifications.
- Under Who can message you, pick one. It saves at once.

In Messages, the button with sliders, next to search, opens the same choice.
People you follow and people you’ve talked to can always message you. A message about a game you’re selling, a pitch, or an application to your job post also always reaches your inbox.
Requests
Requests shows as a chip in Messages while someone is waiting there.
- In Messages, tap Requests.
- Open a request to read it.
- Tap Accept to move it to your inbox, or Delete to remove it.
Requests don’t send you notifications or emails. The sender can’t see that you’ve read their message until you accept it.
Mute, block, report or delete
Open the conversation and tap ⋯ at the top. For Mute, Block and Report, see Mute, block or report someone. Delete conversation removes it from your Messages. Tap Undo right after to bring it back.
